DeAngelo Williams: The Nickelback Running Back

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams just eclipsed the 10,000-yard mark from scrimmage with 94 yards rushing and 38 yards receiving against the Bengals on Sunday – just the 13th active player to reach that mark. But Williams’ achievement was overshadowed at his postgame press conference.

Williams, the 33-year old running back who fills in while Le’Veon Bell is suspended every year, was answering questions about his age when his phone started blaring “Rockstar” by Nickelback.

“Don’t judge me. I’m a Nickelback fan.”

Yes, we will. And not even old school “How You Remind Me.”

First of all, just have people text you.

Or keep your phone on silent. That’s a lesson for Robert Griffin III who said it was his “mom” on the phone, but if history is any indication, it was probably a girl from Instagram.

Sure, Nickelback has been the butt of plenty of jokes, but for the oldest running back in the NFL to be sporting a tune from 2005 as his ringtone is really more of a knock on him. At least, go with “Since U Been Gone.”

The Steelers beat the Bengals 24-16 in a rematch of their Wild Card matchup in 2015.
